Understand what each element creates
The Brand directory is an A–Z page. Sartelle reads names from the product Vendor field. When a customer selects a brand, the theme opens its mapped collection: that collection is the individual brand landing page.
The Brand metaobject is optional. Use it to add a logo, image, description, departments or shared size chart without duplicating those details across products.
- Vendor identifies the brand on products.
- Collection is the customer-facing brand destination.
- Metaobject enriches the profile and takes priority over automatic vendor mapping.
02 / Basic setup
Create the vendor and brand collection
- 01Standardise the Vendor
Open Products in Shopify and use exactly the same Vendor on every product from the brand, for example Acne Studios. Avoid variants such as Acne, ACNE Studios or trailing spaces.
- 02Create the collection
Go to Products → Collections → Create collection. Use the exact Vendor name as the collection title.
- 03Make it automated
Set the condition to Product vendor → is equal to → Acne Studios. Shopify will add matching products automatically.
- 04Complete the landing page
Add the collection image, description and SEO fields, then make it available to the Online Store channel.
- 05Check the mapping
Open the collection and confirm its handle matches the handleised Vendor, for example acne-studios.
03 / A–Z page
Create and publish the Brand page
- 01Create a page
Go to Online Store → Pages → Add page and name it Brands, Designers or another suitable label.
- 02Assign the template
In Theme template select brands, then save.
- 03Open the theme editor
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize, open the Brand page and select the Brand directory section.
- 04Choose visible content
Enable search, product counts, images or descriptions. Disable Show vendors without a collection if every link should use a curated landing page.
- 05Add it to navigation
Go to Content → Menus and link the new page from your Brands or Designers menu item.
04 / Departments
Configure Woman, Man, Kids and Home
- 01Create a collection metafield
Go to Settings → Metafields and metaobjects → Collections → Add definition.
- 02Use the expected identifier
Name: Brand departments. Namespace and key: custom.gender. Type: List of single line text. Keep Storefront access enabled.
- 03Complete each brand collection
Open a brand collection and add one or more values: woman, man, kids, home.
- 04Review recognised aliases
In the theme editor check the values mapped to each filter. Defaults also recognise women, donna, men, uomo, bambino, casa and unisex.
- 05Test the filters
Open the Brand page and confirm every designer appears only under departments actually available in the catalogue.
05 / Rich profile
Create the Brand metaobject
Use this method for a structured brand library. Create the definition once, then add one entry per brand.
- 01Add the definition
Go to Settings → Metafields and metaobjects. Under Metaobject definitions choose Add definition and name it Brand.
- 02Check its type
The type/handle must be brand. Keep Storefront access enabled so the theme can read the entries.
- 03Add the fields
Create the fields listed below using the exact keys shown.
- 04Create an entry
Go to Content → Metaobjects → Brand → Add entry. Enter the exact Vendor, select its collection and set the entry to Active.
- 05Connect the theme editor
In Brand directory keep Metaobject type set to brand and make sure all field keys match. Enable images or descriptions when required.
- name — Single line text
- Customer-facing name; use it as the entry display name.
- vendor — Single line text
- Exact Vendor used by the products.
- collection — Collection reference
- Customer-facing brand collection.
- genders — List of single line text
- woman, man, kids and home in any combination.
- logo — File
- Brand logo restricted to images.
- image — File
- Optional editorial image restricted to images.
- description — Multi-line text
- Optional short description.
- size_chart — Page reference
- Optional shared brand size chart.
06 / Products
Connect the Brand profile to products
- 01Create a Product metafield
Go to Settings → Metafields and metaobjects → Products → Add definition.
- 02Set custom.brand
Name: Brand. Namespace and key: custom.brand. Type: Metaobject reference restricted to the Brand definition.
- 03Assign the entry
Open a product, find its metafields and select the correct Brand profile.
- 04Check the size chart
When custom.size_chart_page is empty, Sartelle can use the size_chart page from the connected Brand profile.
07 / Exceptions
Correct individual brands in the theme editor
For a small number of exceptions, add a Brand override block inside the Brand directory section instead of changing the entire data model.
- Enter the Vendor exactly as it appears on products.
- Override the label and destination collection.
- Assign Woman, Man, Kids and Home manually.
- Hide a brand or add it to Excluded vendors.
